Events

Welcome to the Fishathon 3 Events page. This page details the itinerary of the Fishathon 3 marathon. It is unlikely to change an awful lot but the full programme is listed below, immediately followed by the results from each event.

Friday 22nd May Mufty Day at Southery Primary School.
The children are have a £1 non-school uniform day. They'll also be building a fish on the hall floor from spare change.
RESULT
The children had a fun day with a fantastic turn out for their mufty day. With donations for the image of 'The Fish On The Floor' it was a very successful day and a great start to kick off the FAT3 proceedings.

Friday 22nd May - From 7pm Bingo night at the Southery Village Hall.
Open to all comers with many prizes on offer throughout the evening.
RESULT
A great fun evening to all concerned. Our thanks to the Bingo team for letting us in on the evening. Micks calling improved with time but try as I might I couldn't convince him that a '2' and a '0' was a duck and a donut.
Total raised: £296.90
May 27th to May 29th
Noon until noon.
The main Fishing 48 hour marathon.
Starts midday on the Wednesday 27th May until midday Friday 29th May. The main event will be held at the Fendicks Fishery in Methwold. We'll endeavour to sign post the venue as best we can on the day.
The team got off to a slow start for the first half and hampered by the weather conditions, teenagers making noise for the first night, the unfortunate news that Stu would be unable to fish the 48hr (circumstances beyond his control - but fear not, he's vowed to fish the Saturday competition instead), only firing on 5 of 6 remaining cylinders (mentioning no names Steve!) and just general bad luck things could only get better.

NB: All fish caught were carp unless otherwise noted.

After 24 hours non stop fishing total so far: 106lbs 3ozs

We were staring defeat in the face at the half way mark with only just over a quarter of the weight caught. The team were not deterred though and battled on and with the oiks at the end of the lake moving on and a change in the weather conditions a positive flurry of fish started popping out of the lake. The peak of which has to be attributed to the 1820hr moment of the fruits of team work with Spike catching some live bait, used by Belly to land the 41lb 8oz monster.

Fishing Competition
Saturday 30th May 2009

The Fishing Competition is open to anyone who wants to participate. This is a light hearted friendly competition with the whole idea to raise money for the charities. We must stress, that there are limited places and they are filling up rather rapidly, so don't delay in getting signed up.

Entrance to the competition is £5 payable to either Steve Vigar (07931 727380) or David Fletcher (07919 902902) which pays for your entrance into the competition and swim at the lake.

When you have paid your £5 entrance fee you will be given a sponsorship form. For every £10 of sponsorship you raise, one pound will be added to your total weight of fish caught. Naturally, the sooner you get involved the sooner you can start getting the sponsorship rolling in.

Dents of Hilgay are very kindly providing us with the venue.

Basic Rules

The basic rules for the Fishing Competition are;

  • Only 1 Rod to be in the water at any one time
  • Barbless hooks only
  • Max 1Kg of ground bait
  • Max 1Kg of boilies

  • All anglers must have a landing net, dipped nets and no swinging in
  • Maximum of 50lbs in a keep net before being weighed
  • Unhook fish on a unhooking mat or landing net
  • Do not handle fish with dry cloth
  • Bribing of stewards is allowed
  • Ensure no litter is left in swim before and after fishing
